Maverick Space Systems is a San Luis Obispo, California-based company founded in 2018 that designs and manufactures CubeSat deployer systems and small satellite deployment hardware for rideshare and dedicated launch missions — providing the mechanical interface hardware that physically ejects satellites from launch vehicles at orbital altitude. The deployer is a critical, often underappreciated element of every CubeSat mission: the satellite must survive launch acoustic and vibration loads inside the deployer, then be cleanly and reliably ejected at the correct moment on orbit without premature separation during ascent or interference with adjacent payloads. Maverick's deployer systems use spring-loaded ejection mechanisms (non-pyrotechnic, avoiding the explosive safety and certification burden of conventional pyrotechnic separation bolts) compatible with the CubeSat standard interfaces established by Cal Poly SLO's P-Pod legacy — a standard San Luis Obispo connection. Cal Poly SLO is the birthplace of the CubeSat form factor itself: aerospace engineering professors Jordi Puig-Suari and Bob Twiggs (Stanford) defined the 10cm × 10cm × 10cm 1U CubeSat standard in 1999, and Cal Poly's P-Pod (Poly Picosatellite Orbital Deployer) became the de facto industry standard deployment system. Customers include rideshare mission integrators (Spaceflight Inc, D-Orbit, Exolaunch) who aggregate multiple small satellites on a single launch vehicle and need standardized deployers to mount and eject each payload cleanly. With global small satellite launch rates growing from approximately 1,000 per year (2020) to projected 2,500-3,500 per year (2025-2027), deployer hardware represents a steady-growth market.
