ADVACAM

ADVACAM is a Czech space technology company founded in 2013 in Prague as a spinout from CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research), developing and manufacturing miniaturized radiation imaging pixel detectors and particle tracking cameras for space radiation monitoring, nuclear physics research, and industrial non-destructive testing applications.

The company's core technology is based on the Medipix/Timepix family of hybrid pixel detector chips developed at CERN — application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) bonded to semiconductor sensor layers (silicon or cadmium telluride) that detect and image individual charged particles, X-rays, gamma rays, and neutrons with energy discrimination capability. In the space radiation environment, these detectors image the radiation field — mapping particle directions, types (protons, heavy ions, electrons), and energies — providing substantially more operational data than traditional dosimeters that simply integrate total absorbed dose.

ADVACAM's MiniPIX series radiation cameras are miniaturized Timepix-based detectors designed for CubeSat and ISS payload integration. With 14 MiniPIX cameras operating aboard the International Space Station in various experimental configurations, ADVACAM is one of the most widely deployed space radiation measurement providers on the ISS, and serves as an official NASA commercial supplier of radiation detectors for space weather and crew dosimetry monitoring applications. The cameras provide real-time particle field characterization useful for astronaut safety monitoring, identifying which radiation events pose greatest risk to crew and electronics.

Beyond ISS, ADVACAM's detectors are deployed on LEO satellites monitoring space weather and in research reactors and particle physics facilities worldwide.
