About African Space Agency

The African Space Agency (AfSA) is a continental space organisation established by the African Union to promote cooperation between the space policies of the AU's 55 member states. The AU adopted the African Space Policy and Strategy in 2016 and agreed upon the statute underlying AfSA in 2018. The African Union launched AfSA and inaugurated its headquarters at Egypt's Space City on the outskirts of New Cairo on 20 April 2025. Since Egypt launched Africa's first satellite in 1998, 18 African countries have launched 63 satellites.
