Arkisys

Arkisys is an American in-space infrastructure company founded in 2019 and headquartered in Los Alamitos, California, developing the Orbital Port concept — a network of modular robotic platforms designed to serve as on-orbit servicing hubs for satellite assembly, refueling, inspection, and component replacement missions without requiring vehicles to return to Earth.

The Orbital Port architecture uses modular, standardized robotic infrastructure that can be assembled and expanded in orbit over time, creating a persistent in-space servicing capability analogous to terrestrial maritime ports or aircraft maintenance facilities. Each Port module integrates robotic manipulators, docking interfaces, tool storage, and propellant handling systems to enable a range of servicing activities for commercial and government satellite customers seeking to extend satellite life or reconfigure orbital assets.

Arkisys established a partnership with NASA Ames Research Center to maintain and operate the Astrobee free-flying robotic platform onboard the International Space Station — providing engineering expertise in robotics operations in the space environment while building flight heritage. The company received a $1.6 million Space Force contract for an in-orbit satellite construction demonstration, validating the assembly-in-space capabilities underlying the Orbital Port concept.

Arkisys competes in the emerging in-orbit servicing and manufacturing (ISAM) sector alongside Northrop Grumman's SpaceLogistics (Mission Extension Vehicle), Astroscale, and ClearSpace, each approaching the satellite servicing market with different technical architectures for life extension, debris removal, and orbital logistics.
