Arizona State SESE

Arizona State University’s School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE), founded in 2006 and located in Tempe, Arizona, is a leading academic and research institution dedicated to the study of Earth, our solar system, and the universe. SESE offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including a first-of-its-kind fully online accredited undergraduate astronomy degree, alongside undergraduate research opportunities. The school uniquely integrates science, engineering, and education to foster groundbreaking discovery.

SESE’s research spans several key areas including cosmology, astronomy & astrophysics, Earth & environmental sciences, planetary sciences, and systems engineering. Supporting this research are notable facilities, including two spaceflight-certified cleanrooms for spacecraft and instrument assembly and testing, as well as a collection of over 40,000 meteorite specimens. The school has been directly involved in over 25 space missions, demonstrating practical application of its research.

Notably, SESE consistently ranks highly in several geological and earth science disciplines, currently holding the #1 position in geological and earth sciences, #3 in geochemistry, and #5 in both environmental sciences and geology, as well as #12 in overall earth sciences graduate education.
