AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH is a Heilbronn, Germany-based manufacturer of space-grade multi-junction solar cells with over 55 years of continuous production experience — founded in 1964 as part of AEG Telefunken's semiconductor division and later independent, the company holds the European market leadership position in III-V multi-junction photovoltaic cells for satellite and spacecraft power systems.

AZUR SPACE's multi-junction solar cells use stacked semiconductor junctions — typically triple-junction structures combining germanium (Ge), indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs), and indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) layers — each tuned to absorb different wavelength bands of the solar spectrum, collectively achieving 28-32% solar energy conversion efficiency under the AM0 (air mass zero, extraterrestrial) solar spectrum. This is roughly double the efficiency of conventional silicon solar cells, making them essential for satellite power budgets where mass and deployed panel area are severely constrained.
