Founded in 2023 by Katie King and Leonor Teles, the company develops BOX, a compact, autonomous, microwave-sized manufacturing unit designed to move protein crystallisation from one-off ISS experiments toward industrial-scale production. Crystallising monoclonal antibodies in orbit can yield more uniform suspensions, potentially enabling at-home subcutaneous injections instead of hospital infusions. In 2026 BioOrbit raised a 9.8 million pound seed round, described as the largest ever for in-space manufacturing.
