Calian Group Ltd (TSX: CGY) is a Canadian professional services and advanced technology company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, founded in 1982 — publicly traded since 1993 — that operates one of Canada's longest-standing satellite ground system engineering businesses alongside healthcare staffing, defence training and simulation, and IT/cybersecurity service divisions. Its Advanced Technologies segment, the space and defence engineering business, traces continuous satellite ground segment work back to the early Telesat Canada Anik satellite era in the 1970s.

The space division's core competency is designing, integrating, and operating satellite ground infrastructure: Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) earth stations for satellite command and health monitoring; communications gateway earth stations for GEO broadband satellite networks converting between terrestrial IP and satellite uplink/downlink RF; and satellite network coordination stations managing frequency spectrum and interference between multiple satellite systems sharing orbital arc positions.

Calian has historically been Canada's primary independent ground system integrator — serving Telesat Canada's GEO fleet as a multi-decade operations partner — and is developing ground infrastructure for Telesat Lightspeed, Canada's planned ~198-satellite Ka-band LEO constellation.

Proprietary products include TITAN: a modular, software-defined satellite command and control platform providing telemetry ingest, command uplink scheduling, anomaly detection, and spacecraft health monitoring — deployable for both government and commercial satellite operations centers. Calian builds antenna systems from 1.8m to 9.1m diameter reflector aperture in C, X, Ku, and Ka-band configurations, designed to its customers' link budget specifications.

Beyond Telesat, Calian supports the Canadian Space Agency's satellite operations, Department of National Defence satellite communication programs, and international satellite operators seeking Canadian ground infrastructure. With approximately CAD $250M+ in Advanced Technologies segment revenue within a ~CAD $750M total group, Calian competes with Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (US ground systems software), Comtech EF Data (US modem/terminal hardware), and ViaSat's government systems division for satellite ground segment contracts.
