Caltech Space Solar Power Project

The Caltech Space Solar Power Project (SSPP), founded in 2011 and based in Pasadena, California, is focused on developing technology for the collection of solar power in space and its wireless transmission to Earth. The project aims to provide a continuous, weather-independent power source accessible globally. SSPP’s core research and development centers on overcoming the fundamental challenges of space-based solar power implementation.

A key differentiator for SSPP is its approach to system design, utilizing modular, ultralight, and foldable 2D integrated elements. This architecture integrates solar power collection and radio frequency (RF) conversion into a single unit, eliminating the need for complex internal power distribution networks and reducing overall system weight.
