It publishes an open-source link-budget library called Spacelink and offers an online tool for designing spacecraft communication systems, with a ground station network planned to support lunar traffic.
The company was founded in 2025 by chief executive Jacob Portukalian, who designed the communication system for SpaceX's Crew Dragon, and was previously known as Heliosphere Network. Its team draws on engineers from SpaceX and Astra. The pitch is a commercial alternative to NASA's Deep Space Network, whose capacity is heavily oversubscribed as lunar missions multiply.
Cascade Space announced a $5.9 million seed round in July 2025 with participation from Y Combinator, Nova Threshold, Undeterred Capital, Olive Capital, Karman, Palm Drive Capital, Garage Capital, Hawktail, Pioneer Fund and Liquid 2 Ventures. Its first ground station, Earth Station Zero, is planned to downlink from the Moon in 2026.
