Chang Guang Satellite

Chang Guang Satellite Technology (CGST) is a Chinese commercial remote sensing company founded in 2014 in Changchun, Jilin Province, operating the Jilin-1 constellation — China's first commercial remote sensing satellite system and one of Asia's largest commercial Earth observation satellite networks, with over 100 satellites providing high-resolution optical, video, and wide-area imaging capability.

The Jilin-1 constellation launched its first satellite in October 2015 and expanded rapidly to include multiple satellite types: high-resolution imaging satellites achieving sub-0.5-meter panchromatic resolution, wide-format survey satellites for large-area mosaic coverage, and video satellites capable of filming continuous footage of surface events including infrastructure, vessel movements, agricultural conditions, and disaster scenes. The constellation's diverse sensor mix gives CGST the ability to offer both high-detail imagery for specific sites and frequent broad-area coverage — a combination competitive with international providers including Planet Labs and Maxar Technologies.

CGST operates commercial data services selling imagery subscriptions and analytics to government agencies, agricultural monitoring services, insurance companies, mining operators, and maritime domain awareness users across China and internationally. Beyond satellite operations, CGST manufactures satellites as a commercial product for domestic Chinese commercial operators and institutional customers, positioning itself as both an operator and a hardware provider within China's rapidly commercializing space industry. The company is backed by the Jilin provincial government and state-aligned investment funds supporting China's commercial space sector development.
