About Dhruva Space

Dhruva Space, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Hyderabad, India, is a vertically integrated space technology company and one of the oldest surviving Indian private space startups — predating India's 2020 opening of the space sector to private companies under the reformed regulatory framework. The company has evolved from early space systems consulting into satellite manufacturing, launch integration, and ground segment operations.

Dhruva holds the distinction of being the first Indian private company authorized by IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center — the regulatory body established in 2020 to oversee private space activities) for Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS). This authorization allows Dhruva to operate commercial ground station facilities and offer antenna time, data downlink, and telemetry/tracking/command (TT&C) services to domestic and international satellite operators, filling a gap in India's commercial space infrastructure.

The company's ground station network centers on indigenously developed S-band and X-band antenna systems, with facilities located at IIT-Hyderabad (Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad), one of India's premier engineering research universities. S-band and X-band are the primary frequency ranges used for Earth observation data downlink and spacecraft TT&C. Dhruva has partnered with Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) — operator of the global Esrange Ground Station network — to expand its antenna access globally, giving customers access to passes over high-latitude stations that provide more frequent contact with polar-orbiting satellites.

Beyond ground services, Dhruva manufactures small satellites and provides satellite bus development, integration, and testing services to Indian government, academic, and commercial customers. The company has built nanosatellites, technology demonstration payloads, and student satellites, contributing to India's growing smallsat industry. Dhruva competes with Pixxel, Bellatrix Aerospace, and Agnikul Cosmos in India's rapidly expanding commercial space sector, which IN-SPACe and ISRO are actively nurturing as a strategic industrial priority.
