e-GEOS

e-GEOS is an Italian Earth observation and geospatial services company headquartered in Matera, Basilicata, established in 2007 as a joint venture between Telespazio (80%, a Thales/Leonardo joint venture) and the Italian Space Agency ASI (20%). e-GEOS operates as the commercial arm for Italy's COSMO-SkyMed radar satellite constellation — one of the world's most capable dual-use SAR (synthetic aperture radar) EO systems — marketing data products and derived geospatial intelligence services to international government and commercial customers.

COSMO-SkyMed consists of two generations of X-band SAR satellites: the original four-satellite CSK constellation (2007–2010) and the upgraded CSG (COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation) two-satellite system (2019–2021). X-band SAR at COSMO's wavelengths achieves resolutions down to approximately 1 meter in Spotlight mode, with the key advantage over optical systems of imaging through cloud cover and in all weather conditions, day or night — critical for military reconnaissance, disaster monitoring, maritime surveillance, and infrastructure monitoring.

COSMO-SkyMed's dual-use Italian government/commercial architecture (jointly funded by ASI and the Italian Ministry of Defense) provides e-GEOS commercially marketable data from a system primarily designed for national security.

e-GEOS provides three product tiers: raw and calibrated SAR data products for technical users, image-derived analytics including change detection, subsidence monitoring (InSAR time-series for urban infrastructure settling), deforestation mapping, and flood extent mapping for disaster response, and higher-level geospatial intelligence products for government and defense clients. The company participates in European Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) rapid mapping activations, providing SAR-derived flood and damage maps for ERCC (EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre) during major disasters.

Headquartered at the Italian Space Agency's geodesy and remote sensing center in Matera — where one of Italy's primary satellite ground stations is located — e-GEOS benefits from direct data downlink from COSMO-SkyMed. The company competes in the SAR data and analytics market with Airbus Defence and Space (TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X), Maxar (synthetic aperture radar products), Capella Space, ICEYE, and Umbra Space.
