Equatorial Space is an Australian commercial launch services company founded in 2020 and headquartered in Cairns, Far North Queensland, developing infrastructure and regulatory approvals for a commercial spaceport in tropical northern Australia — targeting launch services to low-inclination, equatorial, and sun-synchronous orbits for Asia-Pacific commercial and government customers.

Northern Australia provides a geographic advantage for equatorial orbit launches: sites in Far North Queensland and the Cape York Peninsula lie at approximately 12-17° S latitude — significantly closer to the equator than most Australian population centers — benefiting from greater Earth surface velocity that reduces propellant required for geostationary transfer orbit missions. The region's low population density surrounding potential launch trajectories over the Coral Sea toward the north reduces safety exclusion zone constraints compared to launches over populated areas.

Equatorial Space is developing its commercial launch capability within Australia's maturing space regulatory framework: the Australian Space Agency (established 2018) has created a commercial launch licensing pathway under the Space (Launches and Returns) Act 2018, enabling private spaceport development.
