Eurospace

Eurospace is the Paris-based trade association for the European space industry manufacturers, founded in 1962 — serving as the collective voice of European aerospace companies engaged in space system manufacturing, representing members in policy advocacy at EU institutions, ESA governance bodies, and international trade forums, and publishing authoritative annual statistics on European space industry employment, revenues, and market position.

Eurospace membership includes virtually all major European space primes and many mid-tier suppliers: Airbus Defence & Space, Thales Alenia Space, Leonardo, ArianeGroup, OHB, RUAG Space, Safran, MDA, Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL), Terma, Cobham, GMV, and dozens of smaller specialized companies across ESA member states. This breadth of membership gives Eurospace unmatched visibility into the full European space industrial ecosystem — from launch vehicles through satellite manufacturing to ground segment and downstream applications.

Eurospace's most visible annual product is the 'European Space Industry in Figures' report — a statistical survey that quantifies European space industry revenues (typically €8-10 billion annually for the manufacturing sector), employment (approximately 35,000-40,000 direct jobs), export ratios, investment in R&D, and breakdown by subsector (launchers, satellites, instruments, ground systems) and by country. This data is cited by ESA, EU Commission, and national space agencies in budget justification, industrial policy design, and competitiveness assessments.

Policy advocacy is Eurospace's second major function: representing European manufacturers' interests in ESA ministerial council preparations (where ESA's multi-year budget and program portfolios are decided by member state ministers), in EU Space Programme governance (Galileo, Copernicus, EU Space Agency EUSPA), in European Defence Fund programs that include space components, and in trade policy discussions affecting export controls, spectrum allocation (ITU coordination), and industrial competitiveness versus non-European launch and satellite providers.

Eurospace coordinates with its US counterpart (Satellite Industry Association, SIA; Aerospace Industries Association, AIA) and global industry bodies on multilateral space policy issues. The organization's secretariat maintains regular contact with the European Commission's DG DEFIS (Defence Industry and Space directorate) and with ESA's Industrial Policy Directorate.
