This capability is particularly relevant for LEO satellite communications — where satellites orbit at 7.8 km/s and transit the sky in approximately 10 minutes from horizon to horizon, requiring a ground terminal that can track the satellite continuously across the full sky arc, then rapidly acquire the next satellite for link handover. GEO satellite terminals can point at a fixed spot in the sky, but LEO constellations (Starlink, OneWeb, Telesat Lightspeed) require active tracking. FreeFall's all-sky coverage without mechanical movement is an enabling technology for LEO terminal cost reduction.
FreeFall was named the 2019 Arizona Startup Innovator of the Year, reflecting the company's innovative approach and growing recognition within the satellite communications ecosystem. The company has pursued SBIR contracts from NASA and DoD to develop ground station antenna solutions.
