About Gilmour Space

Gilmour Space Technologies is an Australian space company developing the Eris orbital launch vehicle, a three-stage rocket standing 25 meters tall with 1.5 meter diameter. On July 29, 2025, Gilmour attempted Australia's first orbital launch from Australian soil in over 50 years at the Bowen Orbital Spaceport at Abbot Point, Queensland. The Eris Block 1 rocket, unveiled by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as Australia's first sovereign orbital rocket, lifted off but experienced failure after 14 seconds of flight, drifting sideways before returning to Earth. Despite the setback, Gilmour Space is committed to launching again in 2026. Eris Block 1 can carry up to 215 kg to 500 km sun-synchronous orbit, providing low to mid-inclination equatorial orbit access from its coastal Queensland location. Gilmour Space received $5 million from the Australian Government to accelerate development of Eris' next-generation liquid rocket engine. The Bowen Orbital Spaceport is Australia's first licensed commercial orbital launch facility.
