Quick Facts
About Glenair
Glenair is a privately held American manufacturer of connectors, cable assemblies and electromechanical hardware, headquartered in Glendale, California, and founded in 1956, when it began making electrical connector backshells and accessories. The company has since grown into one of the larger independent suppliers of ruggedized interconnect products for military, industrial, aerospace and space applications, with additional manufacturing plants in Mansfield (England), Bologna (Italy) and Salem (Germany).
Glenair's space-qualified product lines include MIL-DTL-38999 and MIL-DTL-83513 micro-miniature and micro-D circular and rectangular connectors, its Series 806 and Series 89 miniature and nano-miniature connectors, RF multi-port connectors, space-grade wire and cable systems, and ArmorLite shielded cable systems designed to reduce harness weight on spacecraft. It also supplies non-pyrotechnic hold-down-and-release mechanisms (HDRMs) used to secure deployable satellite appendages such as solar arrays and antennas until release, and blind-mate, dead-face and lanyard-release disconnects used in robotic and crewed spacecraft servicing.
Glenair states its space products are designed to comply with NASA, ESA and JAXA standards, though the company does not publicly name specific missions or customers for its space hardware. Connectors and wiring harnesses are line items that essentially every satellite and launch-vehicle builder buys rather than manufactures in-house, and Glenair is one of a small number of established suppliers in this niche, alongside Amphenol Space and Heico Space, both already represented in this directory.
