HyPrSpace

HyPrSpace is a Bordeaux, France-based launch startup founded in 2019 developing hybrid-propulsion micro-launch vehicles targeting the emerging smallsat rideshare market. Hybrid propulsion — combining a solid fuel grain with a liquid or gaseous oxidizer — offers a middle path between the simplicity of solid rockets and the performance of full liquid engines: simpler handling than bipropellant liquids, no SCAPE suit requirements for loading, inherently throttleable, and restartable in ways pure solids cannot match.

HyPrSpace positions its propellant choices as more environmentally conscious than kerosene/RP-1 engines, reducing black carbon soot emissions — a growing concern for regulators as launch frequency increases. The company has developed subscale demonstrators under its POC (Proof of Concept) series and targets dedicated small launch for payloads in the 50-150 kg class to LEO. Operating out of Bordeaux, France, HyPrSpace benefits from proximity to ArianeGroup and the broader Nouvelle-Aquitaine aerospace cluster, with support from French innovation agency Bpifrance and the CNES Future Investments Program.
