IABG's flagship space test infrastructure is the WSA/TVA (Weltraum-Simulations-Anlage / Thermisch-Vakuum-Anlage) facility: a thermal vacuum chamber with approximately 500 m³ interior volume (6.8 m diameter) capable of sustaining pressures below 2×10⁻⁶ mbar and thermal environments from -180°C to +150°C using liquid nitrogen cooling and controlled IR radiation simulation. This volume accommodates complete large satellite system-level testing — including full-sized GEO telecommunications satellites and complete scientific spacecraft — under conditions that simulate the space environment without the expense of launch. The chamber can also simulate the deep cold of space with helium cooling systems reaching approximately 10 Kelvin for cryogenic instrument testing.

IABG's magnetic field simulation facility uses large coil arrays to produce controlled uniform magnetic fields that cancel Earth's ambient field and simulate the weak magnetic environment of interplanetary space — essential for validating sensitive magnetometers and star trackers that could be disturbed by residual magnetic materials in the spacecraft.

Major European space programs tested at IABG include ESA mission satellites, Airbus Defence & Space commercial GEO platforms, and numerous European military satellites. IABG competes with ESTEC Large Space Simulator (ESA, Netherlands), CNES Space Centre (France), ISSL (Intespace, Toulouse), and DLR test facilities for European spacecraft environmental test campaigns — a competitive market driven by schedule and slot availability as European launch cadence has increased.
