iCOMAT

iCOMAT is a Bristol, UK-based deep-tech company founded in 2015 commercializing Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) — an automated composite manufacturing process originally developed at the University of Bristol that enables steering carbon fibre tows around curves without wrinkling or gaps, producing complex, optimized composite structures faster and at lower cost than traditional AFP (automated fibre placement) machines. The technology has direct applications for lightweight aerospace structures including satellite panels, launch vehicle fairings, and spacecraft primary structure, where every kilogram saved translates directly to launch cost reduction. iCOMAT raised Series A funding and works with aerospace primes to qualify RTS parts. The University of Bristol spin-out competes in a broader trend of advanced manufacturing startups targeting the weight/cost reduction pressure in NewSpace.
