About In-Space Missions
In-Space Missions is a Hampshire, UK-based small satellite company founded in 2015 and headquartered in Alton, providing satellite development, hosted payload services, and satellite-based data services to UK government agencies, commercial customers, and international space operators. In-Space has established itself as a versatile UK satellite prime contractor capable of delivering operational missions at commercial pace and price — a positioning that complements the UK Space Agency's ambitions for a more commercially active British space sector.
In-Space's Faraday mission series is the company's flagship commercial platform — Faraday-1 (2021) and subsequent missions provide hosted payload services where multiple commercial and government payloads share a common satellite bus, each customer receiving on-orbit operations for their instrument without the cost and schedule of owning a dedicated spacecraft. This hosted payload model lowers the bar for organizations to gain space access: a university research group, a government agency testing a sensor technology, or a startup requiring demonstration data can fly a payload on Faraday for a fraction of an independent satellite mission cost. Faraday hosted payloads have included Earth observation instruments, communications experiments, technology demonstrations, and in-space manufacturing experiments.
Beyond hosted payloads, In-Space designs and builds complete small satellites for government customers — particularly UK Ministry of Defence and UKSA programs — where the company's Hampshire-based engineering team of approximately 50 people can deliver rapid development timelines compared to large prime contractors. In-Space participates in the UKSA's National Space Innovation Programme and supports the UK's ambition to develop sovereign satellite capability across defense, civil, and commercial applications.
In-Space Missions was acquired by Momentus Space in 2022, a US-based in-space transportation company, creating a transatlantic combination of Momentus's Vigoride space tug capabilities with In-Space's satellite development expertise. The acquisition positioned the combined entity to offer complete mission services from launch through orbit raising, payload hosting, and satellite operations. In-Space competes with AAC Clyde Space, Surrey Satellite Technology, and Open Cosmos in the UK small satellite mission prime contractor market.
