About Kacific Broadband

Kacific Broadband Satellites is a Singapore-headquartered satellite communications operator founded in 2013, operating the Kacific-1 high-throughput satellite (HTS) in geostationary orbit at 150°E longitude — providing Ka-band broadband internet connectivity to rural and remote communities across the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, and South and Southeast Asian island nations that lack adequate terrestrial or submarine cable connectivity.

Kacific-1, built by Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS-702MP platform) and launched in December 2019 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9, delivers 12-14 Gbps total throughput using a spot beam architecture with 56 Ka-band beams optimally designed to cover island communities across a service area spanning from South Asia to the Pacific — covering Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, and numerous other Pacific island nations where geography (thousands of small islands dispersed across millions of square kilometers of ocean) makes fiber and LTE infrastructure prohibitively expensive relative to the small populations served.

Kacific's business model targets last-mile broadband distribution for schools, health clinics, small businesses, and government offices in underserved communities — deploying compact VSAT terminals that receive and transmit Ka-band signals to Kacific-1. The company works with in-country distribution partners, telecommunications operators, and Internet service providers who purchase capacity wholesale from Kacific and resell broadband services locally. This partnered distribution model allows Kacific to scale without building last-mile infrastructure itself.

The Pacific Islands connectivity market is strategically significant beyond commercial opportunity: US, Australian, Japanese, and New Zealand governments have identified digital connectivity in the Pacific as a geopolitical priority, as Chinese-backed infrastructure projects (including submarine cables and communications satellites) compete for influence in Pacific Island nations. Kacific has received backing from Asian Development Bank (ADB) financing and development finance institution support reflecting the developmental connectivity mission.

Competitors include Inmarsat (broadband maritime and mobility services), Hughes Network Systems (Ka-band HTS VSAT), Viasat, and increasingly SpaceX Starlink's maritime and rural service expanding into Pacific markets.
