Kawa Space

Kawa Space is a Bengaluru-based Indian Earth observation startup founded in 2021, developing a constellation of high-resolution optical imaging satellites targeting the emerging commercial EO market in India and internationally. The company operates within India's rapidly expanding private space ecosystem enabled by the 2020 space policy reforms that opened satellite manufacturing, launch services, and remote sensing to private companies under IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre) oversight.

Kawa Space's technical focus is on building compact satellites — in the 50–150 kg microsatellite class — carrying sub-meter resolution optical payloads that can deliver imagery competitive with international EO providers like Planet, Satellogic, and BlackSky. India's geography — straddling the tropics with high cloud cover, diverse land use, and extensive coastline — creates strong domestic demand for high-revisit EO data for agriculture monitoring, urban planning, disaster response, and defense applications.

Kawa Space is building toward an initial launch of demonstration satellites before scaling to a constellation capable of daily revisit over key global markets. The company competes in the Indian private EO market with Pixxel (hyperspectral), Bengaluru-based SatSure (agriculture analytics), and Tata's space ventures, and internationally with Satellogic and BlackSky for the affordable high-resolution EO segment.
