Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is a large, diversified Indian engineering, construction, manufacturing and technology conglomerate headquartered at L&T House, Ballard Estate, Mumbai. The business began as a trading partnership in 1938 between Danish engineers Henning Holck-Larsen and Søren Kristian Toubro and was legally incorporated on 7 February 1946 (CIN L99999MH1946PLC004768). L&T is publicly listed in India, trading on the NSE (ticker LT) and BSE (code 500510) as a constituent of both the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 indices, and employs more than 50,000 professionals directly (with group-reported workforce figures, including subsidiaries, cited as high as roughly 407,000 in 2024).

Within L&T's Precision Engineering & Systems (PES) business segment, the company manufactures defence and space hardware including missile and launch-vehicle structures, precision-machined components and systems integration work. L&T has supplied structural and propulsion-related hardware to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for missions including Chandrayaan-3, and the company has stated it is expanding its space business to include manufacturing of launch vehicles and satellites.

L&T's most significant space-industry role to date is as the other principal partner, alongside Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), in the industrial consortium selected by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), ISRO's commercial arm, in September 2022 to manufacture five PSLV-XL launch vehicles under India's programme to transfer PSLV production from ISRO to private industry — the first such privately built PSLV variant.

Outside space, L&T's core revenue is generated by its infrastructure, hydrocarbon, power, heavy engineering, defence and IT/technology services businesses, making its space work a small but strategically significant part of a much larger industrial group.
