The company was founded in 2017 in Naples as a spin-off from the University of Naples Federico II by Gaetano Volpe, Mauro Manente and Vincenzo Vecchio. Its name refers to Naples sitting at roughly 40 degrees north. Its EarthDataPlace platform launched in 2023 and serves clients across Italy, Europe and North America.

Latitudo 40 went through the Techstars Transformative World accelerator and has raised investment from Techstars, Expert Dojo, CRIF, Open Venture and Kurrant Ventures. It has partnered with Planet on global climate monitoring work and presented AI agent–based geospatial analysis at ESA Acceleration Days.
