Longshot Space Technologies is developing a ground-based kinetic launch system, effectively a large 'space gun' that uses a multi-injection, staged-gas accelerator to propel payloads to hypersonic velocities. Rather than explosive charges, Longshot uses timed compressed-gas injections along the length of its barrel to accelerate projectiles. The company targets dramatically low launch costs, with a stated long-term goal of around $10 per kilogram to orbit.
