Marlink is an Oslo-headquartered (Luxembourg-registered) satellite communications managed service provider founded in 2006, operating as one of the world's largest value-added satellite service providers (VASPs) for maritime and enterprise remote site connectivity — managing multi-orbit hybrid networks for thousands of vessels, offshore platforms, mining sites, and humanitarian field operations globally.

For maritime customers — container ships, bulk carriers, cruise liners, offshore drilling rigs, FPSO tankers, fishing fleets, and naval auxiliaries — Marlink provides Ku-band and Ka-band VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) broadband connectivity delivering multi-megabit symmetrical throughput for crew welfare internet (video calls, streaming services), operational IT systems (ERP software, e-commerce port declarations, remote vessel management), and IoT data streams (engine performance telemetry, fuel consumption monitoring, predictive maintenance alerts).

L-band fallback via Inmarsat FleetBroadband or Iridium provides low-bandwidth safety and distress communications when VSAT signals are blocked by satellite geometry or antenna obstruction.

Marlink's strategic value is in hybrid network management: rather than simply reselling capacity from a single satellite operator, Marlink aggregates connectivity from multiple GEO providers (Intelsat, SES, Inmarsat, Viasat) and manages seamless failover and load balancing between VSAT primary, L-band backup, and terrestrial LTE/4G/5G in port — absorbing the integration complexity so maritime operators receive a unified SLA. As LEO constellations matured, Marlink began integrating SpaceX Starlink Maritime and OneWeb/Eutelsat maritime packages into its hybrid service stack, effectively becoming a multi-orbit aggregator and managed service layer rather than tied to any single technology.

Enterprise remote site customers (mining exploration camps, humanitarian aid field operations, energy exploration crews, military deployed units) use Marlink's similar hybrid managed connectivity approach — combining VSAT with LTE offload for high-bandwidth requirements and satellite backup for business continuity.

Marlink grew through acquisition: absorbing Sealink Maritime Communications, MTN Communications (maritime VSAT), and other regional operators to build scale. Private equity backing from MC Partners and Apax Partners enabled this consolidation strategy. Competitors include Speedcast (maritime VSAT managed services), KVH Industries (maritime VSAT hardware + services), ViaSat Government Systems/ViaSat Maritime, and Intelsat's direct maritime service.

The LEO transition is the industry's major inflection: Starlink Maritime's ~$5,000/month flat-rate service at 100+ Mbps is disrupting traditional VSAT economics, pressuring managed service providers like Marlink to compete on service quality, multi-orbit management, and enterprise software integration rather than satellite capacity resale.
