Momentus

Momentus is a commercial space company providing in-space infrastructure services including orbital transportation, hosted payloads, and in-orbit services through its Vigoride Orbital Service Vehicle. The company enables satellite operators to reach precise orbits more efficiently using water plasma-based propulsion technology.

The Vigoride platform uses pioneering Microwave Electrothermal Thruster (MET) propulsion technology with water as propellant to change orbital inclination and deliver satellites to their desired orbits. Momentus has executed three orbital missions to date, deployed 15 customer payloads, and provided hosted payload services. On the Vigoride-7 mission, the company carried seven orbital delivery customers and two hosted payload customers.

In February 2024, the Space Development Agency awarded Momentus a contract modification valued at approximately $1.2 million to continue developing Vigoride for Department of Defense mission requirements. Combined with an August 2023 SBIR award, total funding reached approximately $1.9 million. The company tailored Vigoride capabilities to support DoD payloads, setting the stage for rapid transition to in-space flight demonstration.

Momentus also offers the M-1000 satellite bus based on the space-proven Vigoride platform, providing up to 3 kW of peak power, large payload capacity, flexible configuration, and rapid delivery. The M-1000 enables Defense Department missions including communications and missile tracking. The company continues booking rideshare and hosted payload customers on SpaceX Transporter missions, expanding in-space transportation and services for commercial and government customers.
