The Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology (MITT), founded in 1946, is a Russian research and design institute historically responsible for solid-fuel ballistic missiles such as the Topol and Bulava families. MITT converted its Start ICBM design into the Start-1 orbital launch vehicle, which conducted seven small-satellite launches between 1993 and the early 2000s, and has more recently worked on a proposed Start-1M successor. The institute operates today as a subsidiary of the state corporation Roscosmos.
