About Muon Space

Updated 2026-09-09

Muon Space is an end-to-end space systems provider designing, building, and operating LEO satellite constellations for climate monitoring, weather observation, and national security applications. Founded in 2021 and based in Mountain View, California, Muon Space delivers Earth intelligence through vertically integrated satellite manufacturing and data services.

In March 2024, Muon Space successfully deployed MuSat2 aboard SpaceX Transporter-10, the company's second ESPA-class satellite. Equipped with advanced software-defined radio frequency instrumentation, MuSat2 uses signals of opportunity from GPS and other satellites to produce high-gain measurements for DoD weather programs, filling observational gaps in soil moisture, ocean winds, and space weather conditions.

The U.S. Space Force awarded Muon Space a $2.9 million SBIR Phase 2 contract in December 2024 to evaluate satellite technology for high-resolution cloud cover and weather imagery for military and intelligence operations. Additional contracts include NRO and Air Force Life Cycle Management Center agreements for ionospheric data collection.

In May 2024, Muon Space and Earth Fire Alliance announced the AI-driven FireSat wildfire detection system, eventually comprising 52 satellites with thermal cameras analyzing heat signatures for rapid fire detection and intensity tracking. Muon Space was awarded a Hydrosat contract for its first Constellation-as-a-Service spacecraft integrating multispectral and thermal IR instruments. The company continues building a climate constellation providing valuable data for NASA, NOAA, DoD, and commercial customers.
