Nakuja Project is a Kenyan rocketry and small-launch initiative based at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) near Nairobi. It develops liquid- and solid-propellant sounding rockets with the long-term goal of building an indigenous micro-launch vehicle capable of placing nanosatellites into low Earth orbit, leveraging Kenya's equatorial location. The team has progressively flight-tested a series of rockets (Nakuja 1 through Nakuja 3.5), advancing propulsion, avionics and recovery systems while training Kenyan engineers. It works closely with the Kenya Space Agency and is positioned as a commercial spin-off pursuing low-cost launch services for the African market.
