Quick Facts
About NANO Nuclear Energy
NANO Nuclear Energy (Nasdaq: NNE) is a New York-based advanced nuclear technology company developing ultra-compact fission reactor systems for both terrestrial portable power and space propulsion applications, including the ZEUS (Zero-Emission Ultra-Safe) solid-core battery fission reactor and the LOKI mobile reactor targeting demonstrations at Idaho National Laboratory's DOME test facility. The ZEUS reactor design uses solid uranium fuel embedded in a ceramic matrix with no liquid coolant — the solid-state architecture eliminates the plumbing complexity, pump failure modes, and coolant leak risks of conventional liquid-cooled reactors, at the cost of lower power density. This solid-core approach is conceptually similar to the KRUSTY (Kilopower Reactor Using Stirling Technology) reactor demonstrated by NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy in 2018, which validated compact fission reactors for planetary surface power and deep space missions. For space applications, kilopower-class reactors (1-10 kW electric output) would enable continuous power for lunar and Martian surface operations far exceeding solar panel capability in polar craters or during 14-day lunar nights, and enable nuclear electric propulsion for deep space missions requiring high power and high specific impulse simultaneously. NANO Nuclear's LOKI mobile reactor targets transportable terrestrial applications as well — military forward operating base power, remote community energy, and disaster relief — sharing technology with the space reactor. The company is NASDAQ-listed (NNE) and has attracted venture and public market investment reflecting growing investor interest in advanced nuclear as a clean energy and space technology solution. NANO Nuclear competes conceptually with Oklo, Terrestrial Energy, and X-energy in the advanced compact reactor market, and with NASA's Fission Surface Power project in space nuclear power.
