About Nara Space
Nara Space, founded in 2018 and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is Korea's first private satellite company — pioneering the country's commercial satellite manufacturing and data services sector ahead of larger Korean industrial players — building two distinct satellite constellations: the Observer multispectral Earth observation constellation and the NarSha satellite constellation for methane emissions monitoring, while targeting a combined 96-satellite operational fleet.
The Observer constellation provides multispectral optical imagery for commercial applications including agriculture monitoring, urban development tracking, disaster assessment, and environmental monitoring. Multispectral imaging adds near-infrared and other spectral bands beyond standard RGB photography, enabling vegetation health assessment through NDVI calculations and land cover classification impossible with standard camera imagery. Nara Space's target constellation size of multiple Observer satellites enables increased revisit frequency over the same locations, a key metric for time-sensitive monitoring applications.
NarSha is Nara Space's greenhouse gas monitoring constellation — satellites equipped with spectrometers capable of detecting methane (CH4) column concentrations from orbit, providing data for identifying industrial and natural methane emission sources. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas (80× CO2 warming potential over 20 years), and satellite-based monitoring fills critical gaps in ground-based measurement networks that cannot economically cover remote oil and gas fields, wetlands, and agricultural sources. NarSha data serves environmental regulators, carbon market verifiers, and energy companies tracking their Scope 1 emission footprints.
Nara Space received recognition as a 2025 World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer — an annual award for technology companies making significant contributions to addressing global challenges — validating its dual-constellation approach to Earth observation and climate monitoring. The company is part of South Korea's growing NewSpace ecosystem alongside satellite manufacturing startups, propulsion companies, and launch vehicle developers.
