NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, established in 1960 and located in Huntsville, Alabama, serves as the agency’s lead center for propulsion systems and a key contributor to both launch vehicles and broader space systems development. With a workforce of over 6,000, Marshall has a storied history in rocketry, notably developing the Saturn V rockets that propelled the Apollo missions to the Moon. Currently, the center leads development of the Space Launch System (SLS), the powerful rocket designed for deep space exploration, including the Artemis program.

Beyond launch systems, Marshall is responsible for significant contributions to space-based observatories, including the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and has played a role in the development of space stations, including Skylab and modules for the International Space Station. The center also actively fosters the next generation of engineers through programs like the Human Exploration Rover Challenge and the Student Launch challenge, engaging students in hands-on design, build, and launch activities. Marshall’s expertise extends to technology demonstration missions, continually advancing capabilities for future space endeavors.
