Newtec is a Belgian satellite communications technology company based in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium that was acquired by ST Engineering iDirect (the VSAT technology subsidiary of Singapore's ST Engineering group) in 2019, becoming a key part of ST Engineering's satellite ground systems portfolio. Founded as an independent company, Newtec specialized in high-performance satellite modems and VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) hub equipment, with its Dialog platform serving as a centralized network management and hub system for enterprise and carrier-grade VSAT deployments supporting hundreds to thousands of remote terminals. The company's technical leadership is in DVB-S2X modulation — the most advanced version of the DVB-S2 satellite broadcasting standard, adding 22 additional modulation/coding combinations beyond DVB-S2 to achieve higher spectral efficiency, enabling data rates up to 425 Mbps per carrier over high-throughput satellite (HTS) beams operating in spot-beam Ka-band or Ku-band. This technology is essential for maximizing the revenue capacity of HTS satellites from Inmarsat (GX), SES-17, Eutelsat KONNECT, and Intelsat's Epic fleet. Post-acquisition, Newtec's modem and hub technology complements ST Engineering iDirect's own platform, expanding the combined group's VSAT hardware portfolio for maritime, enterprise, energy sector, government, and backhaul customers who require high-throughput, reliable satellite broadband connectivity.
