About Orbital Reef

Orbital Reef is a planned commercial space station being developed by Blue Origin (lead) and Sierra Space, with additional partners including Boeing, MDA Space, Redwire, and Genesis Engineering Solutions. Announced in October 2021, Orbital Reef was selected by NASA as one of four Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destination (CLD) award recipients in December 2021, receiving a Phase 1 study contract. The station design calls for a mixed-use orbital business park accommodating up to 10 people, providing research laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and space tourism capabilities as an eventual successor to the ISS. Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket is planned to deliver station modules. Orbital Reef competes with Starlab (Voyager/Airbus) and Axiom Station for NASA's post-ISS commercial station contracts, which are expected to sustain US human spaceflight operations after ISS deorbit around 2030.
