Orbital Sidekick is a San Francisco-based hyperspectral satellite imaging company founded in 2016 operating a constellation of hyperspectral sensors optimized for infrastructure monitoring, environmental compliance, and resource exploration — providing customers with continuous spectral fingerprinting of pipeline corridors, industrial facilities, mining sites, and ecosystems that identifies material composition, chemical anomalies, and change events invisible to conventional multispectral or RGB cameras.

Mineral exploration applications exploit hyperspectral geology mapping: SWIR wavelengths detect mineral species (kaolinite, chlorite, epidote, alunite, jarosite) associated with hydrothermal alteration zones that accompany economic mineral deposits. Exploration geologists use Orbital Sidekick data to prioritize ground sampling and drilling programs in large untested areas.

Methane detection leverages SWIR absorption at 1660nm and 2300nm to detect methane plumes from landfills, coal mines, livestock operations, and oil and gas facilities — supporting methane emissions monitoring programs under voluntary corporate sustainability commitments and evolving regulatory requirements.
