Quick Facts
About Pixxel
Pixxel is a California-based space technology company building the world's highest-resolution hyperspectral satellite constellation. In January and August 2025, Pixxel launched six Firefly satellites aboard SpaceX Transporter missions, completing Phase I of its constellation. These satellites deliver unprecedented 5-meter resolution across more than 150 spectral bands with 40 km swath width and daily revisit capability, setting new industry benchmarks.
The Firefly satellites operate with 135+ bands over the 470-850 nm range, enabling applications including early crop stress detection, precision agriculture, carbon absorption tracking, methane emissions identification, deforestation monitoring, mineral exploration, and environmental compliance. NASA selected Pixxel for its $476 million Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition Program in September 2024, providing hyperspectral data to NASA and U.S. government agencies for Earth science research.
The company plans to assemble a constellation of 18-24 satellites enabling daily revisit frequency anywhere on Earth. Pixxel's hyperspectral imaging technology provides unprecedented spectral detail compared to traditional multispectral imaging.
