Plan-S

Plan-S, founded in 2018 and headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, is a Turkish private space technology company building the Connecta IoT satellite constellation for global Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity — developing low-power satellite communications services for asset tracking, agricultural sensors, industrial monitoring, and other IoT applications that require data transmission from remote locations beyond terrestrial cellular coverage.

Plan-S has been one of the most active satellite launchers in the nascent Turkish commercial space sector: since 2022 the company has launched five demonstration and test satellites as rideshare passengers on SpaceX Transporter missions, validating its satellite bus design, power systems, onboard processing, and the Connecta protocol stack in orbit. These early launches provide operational experience and customer demonstration capabilities ahead of the planned 100+ satellite constellation that would provide global low-latency IoT coverage.

The Connecta IoT service targets the global machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market: maritime vessel tracking and cargo monitoring, precision agriculture soil and weather sensor data collection, remote industrial equipment telemetry, wildlife tracking collars, and supply chain asset tracking across logistics networks. These applications require very small data packets transmitted infrequently (hourly or daily), making satellite IoT economically viable where terrestrial cellular would require prohibitively expensive base station infrastructure.

Turkey's space ambitions have grown substantially with the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) established in 2018, the national space program targeting a lunar mission by 2023 (delayed), and growing investment in domestic satellite manufacturing through TUBITAK and ROKETSAN. Plan-S represents the commercial satellite component of this ecosystem alongside government programs.

Plan-S competes with Myriota, Sateliot, Astrocast, and Lacuna Space in the global satellite IoT market, differentiating through Turkish market relationships and regional emerging-market IoT customer development.
