About Planet Labs Germany

Planet Labs Germany GmbH is the Berlin-based European subsidiary of Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), established in 2018 to serve Planet's rapidly growing European customer base — governments, defense agencies, commercial enterprises, and research institutions — from within the EU regulatory framework, providing local representation for customer engagement, business development, and compliance with EU data governance and GDPR requirements that apply to commercially sensitive satellite imagery procurement.

Planet's European operations are strategically critical because European institutional customers — ESA, national space agencies (DLR, CNES, ASI), EU Copernicus program users, NATO member defense forces, and agricultural monitoring agencies — represent a large and growing share of Planet's revenue. Having a Berlin-based subsidiary enables direct contracting under German and EU law rather than routing transactions through the US parent, simplifies public procurement compliance under EU procurement directives, and allows local staff who understand German and European regulatory culture to manage relationships with German government agencies (including Bundeswehr defense procurement), the European Space Agency's ESAC and ESRIN facilities, and EU Commission Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS) initiatives.

Berlin's position as Germany's technology startup hub and home to a growing aerospace cluster — including proximity to DLR's Berlin Adlershof facility and the ESA Business Incubation Centre — provides Planet with talent access and an ecosystem of local partners building applications on Planet's data APIs. Planet's daily global imaging coverage from its SuperDove constellation (200+ satellites, 3-5 meter resolution, daily revisit) provides the underlying data product, while European customers use it for precision agriculture (Copernicus-supplemental crop monitoring), infrastructure monitoring, urban change detection, defense and intelligence analysis, and environmental compliance.

Planet competes in the European market against Airbus Intelligence (Pleiades NEO constellation, 30 cm resolution), ICEYE (SAR constellation, also with European operations), and Satellogic, while also complementing Copernicus Sentinel free data through higher resolution and faster revisit.
