Amazon Project Kuiper is Amazon's broadband satellite internet constellation, targeting global coverage via 3,236 LEO satellites at ~590–630 km altitude. Amazon committed $10 billion to the program, which received FCC approval to operate in 2020. Production satellites launched on Atlas V and Ariane 6 beginning in April 2024, with initial beta service beginning in late 2024. Kuiper represents the most capital-intensive challenger to SpaceX Starlink, backed by Amazon's cloud infrastructure (AWS Ground Station), logistics network, and consumer electronics capabilities. The constellation targets residential, enterprise, government, and mobility customers across rural and underserved markets. Full constellation deployment is planned by mid-2026 under FCC license requirements.
