About Pulse Space
Pulse Space is a Techstars Space 2024 graduate startup developing laser-based wireless power transmission technology for space applications — enabling satellites to beam power to other satellites, to power-constrained spacecraft, or to surface assets on the Moon or Mars without physical electrical connections. The company's core technology is a high-efficiency laser power beaming system that converts electrical power to a laser beam on the transmitter satellite, points it precisely at a photovoltaic receiver on the target spacecraft, and reconverts the laser light back to electricity — effectively wireless charging in space. This capability addresses critical limitations of current spacecraft architectures: satellites in eclipse (shadow of Earth or Moon) lose solar power generation, forcing them to carry heavy battery systems; rovers and surface assets on the lunar night (14 Earth days long) cannot operate without RTGs or very large battery reserves; and future large in-space manufacturing or computing installations will need power delivery infrastructure beyond what individual solar panels can supply. Pulse Space has partnered with Scout Space for a 2026 on-orbit demonstration mission that would demonstrate real power delivery between two small satellites in LEO — the key proof-of-concept milestone needed to attract commercial and government customers. The company participates in the growing U.S. Space Force interest in space-based power systems, which has funded multiple SBIR programs and studies for potential military applications including continuous-power delivery to assets over locations where solar illumination or RTG availability is constrained. Pulse Space competes with Virtus Solis, Caltech's space solar power MAPLE demonstration, and Naval Research Laboratory's RF-based satellite power beaming experiments in the emerging wireless power transmission space market.
