Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RM&D) is an RTX (Raytheon Technologies) division headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, and one of the world's largest missile defense and advanced weapons systems companies. In the space domain, RM&D develops space-based missile warning and tracking sensors (including the Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next Gen OPIR) satellites replacing SBIRS), missile defense kill vehicles (Standard Missile-3/SM-3, Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle for GMD), and the space surveillance/tracking systems that use space-based assets to provide early warning of ballistic missile launches.
The division also works on directed energy weapons and hypersonic defense systems. RM&D competes with Northrop Grumman and L3Harris in the space-based sensing and missile defense market. RTX's 2020 merger of Raytheon with United Technologies created this division structure.
