Renesas Electronics

Renesas Electronics (TYO: 6723) is a Japanese semiconductor company and one of the world's largest microcontroller suppliers. Renesas has a dedicated space and defense electronics portfolio providing radiation-hardened and radiation-tolerant devices to satellite and spacecraft manufacturers globally. The company's space-grade products include microcontrollers, power management ICs, FPGAs, and mixed-signal devices designed to survive the high-radiation environment of space. Renesas inherited significant space electronics heritage through its acquisition of Intersil (2017, $3.2B), which itself had acquired Harris Corporation's semiconductor division — a long-standing supplier of rad-hard devices to NASA and DoD programs. Renesas competes with Microchip Technology (formerly Microsemi/Actel), BAE Systems Electronics, and Xilinx/AMD in the space-grade semiconductor market.
