About Rogue Space Systems
Rogue Space Systems, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire, develops and operates Orbot spacecraft — small, capable in-space servicing robots designed for satellite inspection, maintenance, repair, refueling, and orbital transport across LEO, MEO, and GEO — building a commercial fleet of autonomous orbital mechanics robots to serve the growing market for satellite life extension and on-orbit servicing.
Rogue Space's Orbot is a compact spacecraft (approximately 15-50 kg class, scalable configurations) with rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) capability driven by the company's proprietary goal-based autonomy architecture. Unlike scripted autonomous systems that require pre-programmed maneuver sequences, goal-based autonomy allows the Orbot to be given high-level mission objectives ("inspect the payload bay of target satellite", "approach to within 10 meters for refueling interface engagement") and independently determine the optimal trajectory, sensor pointing, and maneuver sequence to achieve them — enabling semi-autonomous or fully autonomous operations with varying levels of ground operator supervision based on mission risk tolerance.
Barry-1 is Rogue Space's first demonstrator Orbot, launched to LEO as a technology validation platform for the RPO navigation sensors, communication systems, and goal-based autonomy software stack. Barry-1's on-orbit operation provides the flight heritage that government and commercial customers require before trusting an in-space servicing robot to approach valuable operational satellites.
With $7+ million in US government contracts (AFWERX, Space Force SBIR) plus private investment, Rogue is expanding its Orbot fleet toward multi-satellite operational service. Potential customers include defense agencies needing on-orbit inspection of unknown space objects, commercial satellite operators seeking inspection before expensive ground-based anomaly investigations, and constellation operators needing in-orbit refueling to extend satellite life. Rogue competes with Astroscale, Space Machines Company, and Northrop Grumman MEV in the in-space servicing market.
