Saab Space

Saab Space is the space division of Saab AB (Stockholm: SAAB-B), the Swedish defense and aerospace conglomerate, providing satellite communications electronics, on-board data handling systems, ground systems, and mission operations support for European military, institutional, and scientific satellite programs. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, Saab Space has decades of heritage developing transponders and payload electronics for ESA missions — including transponders for the Olympus communications satellite, Marecs maritime communications satellite, and various science satellite payloads.

Current capabilities include command and data handling units (CDHUs), on-board computers, satellite platform electronics, and secure satellite communications equipment for defense customers. Saab supplies electronics to Swedish and Nordic military satellite programs, participates in ESA programs requiring qualified European industrial components, and provides mission operations support services. Sweden's defense posture and NATO accession in 2024 have given renewed strategic importance to secure satellite communications capabilities, benefiting Saab Space's government customer base.

The company works alongside SSC (Swedish Space Corporation), which operates launch and ground station infrastructure, in the broader Swedish space ecosystem.
