About Space Applications Centre

SAC (Space Applications Centre) is one of ISRO's largest and most important technical centers, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, founded in 1972. SAC is responsible for designing and developing payloads for Earth observation, communication, meteorology, and navigation satellites. Notable contributions include: optical imaging cameras for Cartosat and ResourceSat series, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) payloads for RISAT satellites, the INSAT communication satellite transponder payloads, GSAT communication payloads, and NavIC navigation signal payloads. SAC has a staff of ~3,000 scientists and engineers and operates India's primary satellite remote sensing data reception and processing facility. The center also leads India's space-based climate applications research and coordinates with the India Meteorological Department for INSAT weather data products. SAC's applications-focus makes it the bridge between space hardware and operational societal benefits.
