About Space Generation Advisory Council
The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is a Vienna-based international non-governmental organization founded in 1999 that represents students and young space professionals (generally under age 35) to the United Nations and major international space organizations. Officially associated with the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), SGAC provides a formal pathway for emerging space professionals to contribute policy inputs, conduct research, and participate in international space governance discussions that would otherwise be inaccessible to them.
With over 20,000 members in 150+ countries, SGAC operates through regional groups across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East, and runs working groups on space policy, space law, Earth observation, space exploration, and sustainability. Each year alongside the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), SGAC organizes the Space Generation Congress (SGC) — a conference specifically for young professionals that generates formal recommendations sent to COPUOS and space agencies.
SGAC alumni have gone on to leadership roles in national space agencies, commercial space companies, and international organizations, making the council an important professional network and talent pipeline for the global space sector.
