About SKA Observatory
The SKA Observatory (SKAO), an intergovernmental organisation formally established in Rome in March 2019 by its founding member states, is headquartered at Jodrell Bank Observatory near Macclesfield, Cheshire — also home to the University of Manchester's radio-astronomy research and a commemorative Beagle 2 plaque. SKAO is building and will operate the Square Kilometre Array, a next-generation radio telescope network with antenna sites in South Africa and Australia, to study cosmology, fundamental physics and the search for life beyond Earth.
